Why Is Social Media Important In Business?

– by Business Strategist, Dale Little

Social Media is easily one of the fastest growing benefits of technology today.  And, it’s FREE!  That’s one word that always brings a smile to the face of every business owner, and  in my opinion, that’s the number one reason to learn Social Media and USE it!

Social Media provides virtually instant access to information throughout the world.  Whereas businesses were once limited to contacts within their neighborhood or at best their country, the door is now open to share your company with the entire world.  This often begs the remark, “How does that apply to me?  I don’t know anyone outside of my state!”  Indeed, this may be the case; however, you don’t know who Cousin Joe or High School Friend Susie or Sunday School Teacher Mrs. Smith knows.

This is the core of networking.  Who knows whom, and with whom can I begin a mutually beneficial alliance?  Social Media offers the ability to meet people  online that you may never have the opportunity to meet in person.  Through this interaction you can not only develop personal relationships, but valuable business relationships as well.  Social Media should be utilized in the same way that Happy Hour, Sunday Brunch, conferences and conventions, PTA meetings, and Lion’s Club are utilized.  Meet new people.  Share experiences and expertise. Develop relationships.

For many in business, Social Media is a frightening alien from another land.  Sure, it takes time to learn all of the ins and outs (I’m still learning, mostly through trial and error!) of Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Senatus, Tumblr, et al, but that’s not a good excuse for not learning Social Media. There are many advertising, marketing, and networking opportunities that have been around for years.  Some of these continue to provide excellent opportunities to get the word out about your business.  Very few of these are FREE.  And, this brings us back to the key thought… what other marketing, public relations, networking opportunities provide the ability and opportunity to promote your business worldwide at absolutely no charge?

Thanks for sharing Social Media Day with all of us today!  I hope you’ll now take a moment or two and share your thoughts regarding Social Media  and how it’s affected your business life.  If you have a Social Media question or a Business question, feel free to ask.  I’ll respond with an answer promptly.

Warm wishes to you for many profitable connections!
